Big is Better!

I wanted to push the boundaries and go further with the idea of a book, its structure and how it can become a sculpture, simply by just stitching! So I killed two birds with one stone and created this piece. Seeing how big you can actually go with book binding is so exciting! and it can be manipulated and pulled or stretched into different shapes to create various sculptures, here's a few possibilities of how it can be manipulated- it's just a bit bigger than my other samples lol.

Love Books!

I never thought I'd hear my self say these words...I love book binding! I always saw it as a time consuming process where you had to have a lot of patience, that is true however when you find a stitch that you love, anyone would be crazy not to like it! Now I'm combining this technique with screen-print and paper to create a series of books for my final Major project 2...here's a few of the ones I have stitched together using handmade paper, graph paper, plain paper, J-cloths, fabriano paper and Saunders just to name a few!

Up to date!

After my assessment at Christmas I decided that I wanted to continue my work in paper so I made up some samples to gain an idea on the kind of sructure I wanted to use here are just a few examples of my work in progress from january...

It was my first non university based exhibition so I wasnt too sure how to handle it but I sent off the work anyway and went to view it in january this year it was on until Mid February...heres some of the work that was displayed as well as my own...

from the past into the present

I wanted to get everything up to date before I started to talk about my work at present, so in order to do that I wanted to show you what I got up to before Christmas for my Final Major Project 1.
This work is based on text and coversations that I noted down over a period of time, I particularly became intrigued by conversations overheard through mothers and families that had relatives over in Afghanistan. This is personal for me too therefore I decided to use conversations like these (I overheard a lot talking about the war in afghanistan and about people who were over there, so this gave me a lot of information to work with) From these I began to explore the possibilties of print and stitch and how to transfer the conversations onto fabric. It's also related to surface pattern and the idea of text been used as pattern, heres my final piece...
